NATS 1700 Lecture 14: NATS1700Lecture14-TheDebateOverViolentVideoGamesPart3Questions12
Document Summary
If there was a definitive answer, then there would be no debate. A lot of people reseach it, a lot of experiments are done, and then different answers to the same questions are formed - there were way too many studies out there. Timing: no consensus on reading and/or interpreting studies looking at video games and violence, while the majority of studies have shown a link between videogames and increased aggression and/or desensitization to violence, other studies state otherwise. Skeptics especially doubt validity of earlier video game research in areas such as game selection (think pacman versus grand theft auto), replicability, fragility of theory. Since many meta-analyses use this data, it can become problematic. Some are also unconvinced that that data from any of these studies can be applied to real world phenomena (e. g. perpetuating violence in society) another problem.
