Robert"s father introduced him to drugs at the age of 8, which robert claims to be the origin of his addicion, along with a geneic predisposiion given that his father was also an addict. His substance and alcohol abuse created several personal issues, and it also lead to legal consequences. It resulted in his divorce with actress sarah. Ater a seven year relaionship and many atempts to help robert recover, sarah was unable to coninue the marriage any further. At a certain point, his drug and alcohol consumpion was occurring on a daily basis, as he would be using ater work, on the weekends, and would arrive hungover to the movie set. In an incident in june 1996, the actor was apprehended by los angeles police on sunset boulevard.
