The criminal law and law enforcement is intended to focus on people"s behaviour. Mens rea and actus reus are two elements that must exist in order for a crime to be labelled as such. Racism is systemic in that the police target individuals on the basis of their race. This is the routine targeting of individual that has no basis for law. These heightened contexts of race, racial profiling, and policing. These ideas of a woman driving to a new job and being pulled over because she didn"t signal when changing lanes and later dying in police custody. There are statistics in the states that say that every 28 hours, a black person is murdered by the police. These movements are bringing attention to these issues at an international level. It is believed that the violent history of america is limited to that country and not canada. Indigenous people are disproportionately impacted by violence by the police.
