Document Summary

Organizational commitment- is an employee"s desire to remain a member of an organization. Organizational commitment influences whether an employee stays a member of the organization (is retained) or leaves to pursue another job (turns over). Voluntary turnover occurs when employees themselves decide to quit. Involuntary turnover occurs when employees are fired by the (we want to reduce this) organization for some reason. Withdrawal behaviour- employee actions that are intended to avoid work situations. What does it mean to be committed: affective commitment- an employee"s desire to remain a member of an organization due to a feeling of emotional attachment. (you stay because you want to) Employees who feel a sense of affective commitment identify with the organization, accept that organization"s goals and values, and are more willing to exert extra effort on behalf of the organization. Erosion model- a model that suggests that employees with fewer bonds (emotional attachment) with co-workers are more likely to quit the organization.
