R eligion: faith, truth, and values of beliefs. Industrialization of society + modernization of culture = secularized societies. Findings: the higher the income, the less likely of them to be religious, religiousness is higher among the poor, education attainment (highest level achieve) plays a role in this. The higher the educated are less religious than the un educated: despite the immense impact impact of technology, and an emphasis on world affairs, the 21st century overwhelmingly espouses a religious faith, and atheism is in a minority . Thee responses to secularization thesis: r evised s ecularization thesis. As societies become more secularized, religion becomes a private matter subject to personal choice: r eligious fundamentalism. C onservative religious movements that hold strict readings of their sculptures, are intolerant to non-believers, and confuse religious beliefs with political goals: c ivil r eligion. S ecularized populations start to treat their secular institutions (such as their state) in quasi-religious manners.
