Group cohesion: [a] dynamic process which is reflected in the tendency for a group to stick together and remain united in the pursuit of its instrumental objectives and or for the satisfaction of member affective needs. 4 key characteristics of group cohesion: dynamic - reason for cohesion change over time, multi-dimensional: different aspects of cohesion, instrumental : groups form for a purpose, affective: social relationships & emotional ties. Group integration social : athletes perceptions of unity of the group as a social unit. Group integration-task: athletes perception of group unity re:task and objectives. Individual attraction to group-social: athletes feeling re: personal social interaction with group. Individual attraction to group-task: athletes feelings re: personal involvement with group tasks.
