Document Summary

Capgras syndrome: able to recognize a loved one"s face but with no feeling of familiarity. One site of damage is the right temporal lobe, which disrupts circuits to the amygdala (emotional evaluator) Second place of damage is right prefrontal cortex (required for planning and analysis) Patients are unable to distinguish between what is real and what is not, what is sensible and what is not. Recognition of all stimuli requires factual knowledge and a sense of familiarity. Different parts of the brain perform different functions, however, they all work together. Human brain divided into three structures: midbrain, hindbrain, and forebrain. Hindbrain sits at the top of spinal cord and controls key life functions (rhythm of heart beat and breathing), maintains body posture and balance, and controls brains alertness. Part of the hindbrain, called the cerebellum, plays a diverse role in coordination of bodily movements and balance.
