PO102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Ethnic Nationalism, Political Philosophy, Empiricism
Document Summary
Pluralistic view classical pluralism is the view that politics and decision making are located mostly in the framework of government, but that many non-governmental groups use their resources to exert influence. The central question for classical pluralism is how power and influence are distributed in a political process. Empirical analysis empirical analysis is an evidence-based approach to the study and interpretation of information. The empirical approach relies on real-world data, metrics and results rather than theories and concepts. Empiricism is the idea that knowledge is primarily received through experience and attained through the five senses. Normative analysis is the activity of evaluating, and making, arguments pertaining to questions of right and wrong. Whereas a descriptive statement (also known as a positive statement) is meant to describe the world as it is, a normative statement is meant to talk about the world as it should be.
