PC141 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Standard Deviation, Table Tennis, Gofer
Document Summary
The purpose of this experiment is to see the effects of air resistance on gravity. Measuring gravity using times of steel and ping pong balls dropped. Times between two different balls of different densities will be measured and compared. Average times, gravity, and uncertainties will be calculated and compared. Instrument stopwatch units precision measure zero error seconds. Table 3: drop times of ping pong ball. *bucket is above ground, time is lost or added. *not in a vacuum, factors in the air (e. g. wind) affect the time of the ball dropping. In lab questions: a realistic uncertainty for h would be 5 inches or 0. 13 meters. This uncertainty occurs when dropping the ball it will be at a different height each time, either raised or lowered. Another large contribution to error may also be due to the fact that, the measuring tape might have been bent which would allow the uncertainty to be 5 inches.
