Document Summary

All weight is transmitted to talus by leg. From the talus weight is distributed evenly to two parts: posterior/inferiorly to calcaneus, anterior/inferiorly to head of metatarsals. Arches: curves in plantar surface: have 3 arches in foot (1 transverse, 2 longitudinal medial, lateral, gives the foot its shape. Longitudinal arch: from calcaneus to head of metatarsal, higher on medial side than lateral side, two parts, medial (calcaneus medial 3 head of metatarsals, lateral (calcaneus lateral 2 heads of metatarsals) During swing phase, heel-contact limits mobility so rigid structure makes contact with ground and supports body weight: ligaments control anterior/posterior movement. Ligaments of foot: many on plantar surface of foot prevent excessive movement between adjacent/a lot of talus bones. Interosseous tarsal ligaments lateral 3 metatarsals (anterior: between adjacent surface, talocalcaneal: strong (form tibia to talus, back to calcaneus, between cuboid and navicular, between cuboid and lateral cuneiform, between cuneiform.
