Review question: describe what social loafing is and explain why it occurs, ppl do not devote much effort to a task when their contribution is part of a larger group effort. Social loafing occurs because ppl perceive responsibility for the outcome to be spread across group members. What do you look for in water: taste. Specific temperature of water: price per quantity, packaging, brand, recyclable, nutrients / health concerns. Therefore: all actions, including purchasing behaviour are a result of goals. Feel tension want to resolve this: bigger the gap bw the 2 states, the bigger the tension more motivation to complete the goal, gap can be created by need deprivation. Learned: biogenic (food, shelter, water, sleep etc. , psychogenic (power, fairness, autonomy etc, utilitarian vs. hedonic, utilitarian (functional, practical) Seeks attributes such as durability, price, convenience: hedonic (experiential, emotional) Determinants of motivational strength: value of goal. Is the goal important: biogenic needs, culture, reference groups etc.
