Social cohesion: homophily: the tendency for individuals to associate with similar ones. As numbers of members increase, the average contribuion of each member decreases. Moivaion loss that occurs when an individual"s contribuion becomes less clear to the group. Difusion of responsibility: as groups become larger, deindividuaion more likely to occur. Dispensability: contribuion perceived as smaller, and more redundant. Sucker efect : if people perceive that they are doing more than their fair share of the group"s work, they may reduce efort or wait to see the efort of other members. Social facilitaion: the tendency for improved performance in the presence of others. The presence of others produces a state of arousal that improves focus on simple behaviours that we know well (dominant responses)
