MB109 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Sarcasm, Passive-Aggressive Behavior
Document Summary
We need to learn to deal with conflict: being passive aggressive simply does not work. We need to know how a particular behavior affects interpersonal conflict: need to make an informed decision on how to act. If you continually accommodate to someone, you won"t get what you want because they will expect that you will accommodate yourself. Intent for a short term problem=okay, intent for a short term problem in a long term relationship=not okay. Passive aggression: subtle expressions of direct aggression. Indirectly attacking others: expressions of hostility are indirect or not acknowledged, verbally agree . Behavioral description: objective description without evaluation, describe the facts. It"s hard to dispute facts in a friendly fashion. A description of your feelings: adds a personal dimension to the communication, you become a person that communicates how they are actually feeling instead of being defensive.
