Human beings are part of something bigger. We are human in relation to other people. Some people have more access to community, social worlds than others: ex. She was perceived as an object to be looked at. She did not have the same access to community as other people: ex. Uk recommended refugees not to be rescued from the mediterranean if their boat sinks. Turning people into objects is one way of refusing them to become human. Class economic status and social status. All interconnect and play a role in humanity. Hard to access anything if you do not belong to a nation or state. What are the conditions necessary to be perceived as human beings? (judith butler) Idea of humans belonging to a community or political structures. In order to belong, you have to participate in the norms of the society.
