Sociology 2271A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Radical Feminism, Liberal Feminism, Intersectionality
Document Summary
Class notes: look at page 201 (table 8. 1) that has a summary of differences between theories + know this for thursday and the exam. Including gender pay gap and sexual harassment within fields. Different expectations and norms attached to genders + jobs: liberal feminism speaks to division of labour and double standards within relationships (and this video) Liberal feminism belongs to first and second wave feminism. Radical feminism is in the second wave. First wave: desire for basic individual/human rights (to vote, not to be property) Second wave: once women achieved the rights from the first wave they wanted more equality and to address issues like pay equity- an expansion of rights i. e. the right to paid employment. While theories can differ from each other, they all point out to the silencing of women"s voices, their contributions to academia and cultural life.
