Document Summary

Developmental approach: duvall"s 8 stages of the family (coninued from last week: family with teenagers. The eldest child is age 13 to the end of the teen years. Emoional changes, psychological changes, physical maturity issues, youth developing their independence. Today we are seeing more helicopter parents, which makes it hard for children to ind their independence. The teenager is staring to think about what their goals are, what they want in life. Teenagers start to explore inimacy and relaionships, which gets them thinking about life with a partner, what age they want to get married. They start to develop some competence, skills, abiliies, learning (or not) to embrace self-conidence and self-esteem (this is where we see a divergence) As children exit out of the home to access educaion or work, family numbers start to shrink. This family stage lasts unil the youngest child marries/starts to partner: while the family home starts to shrink, the kin numbers grow.
