Ferility: the ability of a couple to conceive through normal sexual acivity. Inferility: the inability to conceive ater 1 year of regular intercourse or the inability to carry a baby to term. The total ferility rate has decreased in canada since the 1980s. There was a slight upward trend in 1996: possibly due to the echo generaion (born in the mid-80s to the mid-90s) The current canadian ferility rate is 1. 6 (the highest it has been since 1996: what we actually need to keep our canadian populaion strong is a rate of 2. 1. It is esimated that 7-9% of canadians are inferile: about 1/3 of inferility cases are due to male factors, 1/3 female factors, and 1/3 a cause of both. Decreases in ferility rates are relecing socioeconomic changes: women are seing childbearing on hold to further their educaion and establish their careers. Complicaions ater the age of 30 might decrease women"s ferility rates in canada.
