How the economy is a basis of social exclusion (link of unemployment, process of shutting people out of the economy, etc one has to to have money to be a full participant in. Focusing on how people are made to feel like they don"t belong. Barriers put between them and full participation in society. The informal mechanisms how people are made to feel unwelcome. Ostracism/shunning: distancing of groups that are deemed a threat : imprisonment, people that violate the law. Punished: racial prejudice, xenophobia (pushing out groups that we think are threats, slut-shaming: condemning women for engaging in sexual activity, gated communities. Stigmatism: attaching a stigma to groups of individuals that becomes internalized by those individuals. Solidarism: social contract, everyone has equal ability to engage in social activities with others. Thinks that people aren"t constrained: social bonding gets ruptured when people are excluded.
