The mother will bring child (1-2 years old) into playroom, number of stages that occur, a stranger comes and they see if the child responses. When the mother leaves, we assess the child anxiety. Use that to get a sense of the attachment of the relationship. Researchers measured: proximity and contact seeking, contact maintaining, avoidance of proximity and contact, resistance to contact and comforting. Child explores new room with mom present. Child plays with toys when mom present. Same proportions of secure & insecure as in childhood. Childhood attachment style predicts adult romantic attachment style.
