Physiology 2130 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Threshold Voltage, Proprioception, Midbrain
Document Summary
Physiology- study of normal functioning of a living organism and its components parts. Homeostasis- ability of the body to maintain a relatively constant internal environment (to the external changes) Negative feed back control system- measuring of existing value of some factor and comparing it to the set point value to employ series of physiological changes to return to the set value. Interstitial fluid- fluid between the cell (extracellular fluid) The interaction of the cell with its environments. Selectively permeable- only selected molecules may pass through the membrane. Simple diffusion- the movement of molecules from area of higher concentration to lower co(cid:374)(cid:272)e(cid:374)tratio(cid:374) (due to (cid:373)ole(cid:272)ule"s ra(cid:374)do(cid:373) ther(cid:373)al motion) Carrier, where (cid:373)ole(cid:272)ules (cid:271)i(cid:374)d to the carrier and are passed from high to low concentration. Active transport- moves against concentration gradient (acquires atp) Autocrine signal- signal acts on the cell that made it (by itself) Paracrine signal- signal acts on the neighbouring cell.
