From the term medium , a material through which something is transmitted. Artists" medium : oil or other liquid used to carry colour pigment. Psychic mediums , claiming to transmit messages from the dead. Media are mediums (plural media) of communication. In fact just about anything can be used to transmit a message. In the 20th century, the media meant communication industries like newspapers, radio, lm, tv reaching big popular audiences. Usually organized in very top-down ways, o ering a standardized range of content. This has changed because of computers and digital networks (internet) Media now includes social media and mobile phones. Media are a big part of our lives: media are with us all the time. Media are pleasurable: media are enjoyable and creative part of our lives. Media can o er interesting, rewarding work: media can o er interesting and rewarding employment.
