Infection located in proximity to mucosal surfaces: bite wounds inoculate anaerobes into wound, gas in tissues or discharges fizzing wounds, mixed organisms seen on gram stain fail to grow in aerobic culture. Nothing grow on aerobic culture but a lot of stain. Aspiration pneumonia some like chemical burn in lungs, some like pneumonia but still anaerobes involved. Bronchiectasis: esacculation of terminal airways: globs of sputum 2 layers clear with foam on top.
