10% of all athletic injuries affect the abdomen includes spleen, liver and kidney. Thorax: thorax is portion of the body that lies between the neck and the diaphragm, main function is to protect circulatory and respiratory organs, this is protected by the spine posteriorly, the ribs laterally and the sternum anteriorly. Thoracic injuries: most occur due to blunt trauma, rib injuries are common, usually very painful and debilitating, heart and lung injuries are serious and require immediate attention. Rib contusions: blow to front/ side usually leads to rib contusion, blow to back, usually paraspinal contusion, localized pain or area, during inspiration, with palpation, manipulation of rib at distance does not increase pain. Costochondral injuries: compression of antero-lateral ribs cause a separation of the cartilage and rib, local tenderness, swelling, hematoma, step off deformity may have click, treat symptoms and protect area.
