Approx (cid:883)/(cid:885) of world"s population has latent tb: not ill at this point, unaware, not able to transmit disease at latent stage. If infected with tb bacteria: lifetime risk 10% chance latent tb can: much higher risk: compromised immune system (e. g. hiv, diabetes, turn into active over your lifetime malnutrition), tobacco use, comorbidity between hiv and tb patients. When you first get tb, often don"t even know it: first symptoms can be mild (cough, fever, weight loss, etc. , delays in getting care, disease transmission. Without care, tb can lead to death. Treatment: six month drug course and other supports: done by health worker or minimum a trained volunteer.
