Since 2000, labor force participation has been on the rise among men 65 69 and women in the same age group: men and women 70+ are at a slight increase. Illegal to fire or not employ workers on basis of age. New ways and loopholes for ageism to thrive. Can make work environment uncomfortable and can force older adults out of it. Using retirement offers to get people out of the work force. Retirement: withdrawal from labour force in later life: later life can vary. Retirement is not really event; it is more accurate to think of retirement as a process. The tough part is the anticipatory period where you have to change what you do. 2 highest risks of mortality in life: at birth, soon after retirement because that transition is difficult. Retirement is best thought of as process in which individual adapts over time.
