Hitler / the nazi party and results in significantly increased support for the nazi party. Reichstag fire: 27 february 1933: 28th hitler is able to get passed the decree for the protection of people and state / Just working on his own: hitler and the nazi party spin that it was a communist to their advantage, this fire and decree allowed laid down the foundation for a police state, effectively sidelining his strongest opponents. Gleichschaltung: convinces the people that they aren"t doing anything wrong and the people who are being persecuted deserve it, on his way to becoming an unopposed dictator. Hitler told his population to rise up, there would be a lot of backlash.
