Hermann goering; well known wwi officer and pilot who served as leader of the nazi party"s private army, the sa (sturmabteilung/storm battalion) in 1922-1923. After january 1933 he was one of the most powerful officials of the nazi regime, serving in a variety of roles. Ernst roehm: captain in the german army, roehm played an active tool in the nazi movement from 1919, initially as an intermediary between the regular army and the nazi party. From 1931 he led the sa, in july 1934 he was killed on hitler"s orders. Heinrich himmler: played a leading role in the nazi party from the early 1920"s. from 1929 he was head of the ss (schutzstaffel or protection squadron). An elite unit that initially served to guard nazi rallies and later, from 1934, in most respects displaced the sa as the nazis own army. Himmler also served from 193 as head of the gestapo.
