How to make a moon: origin of our moon and its unique formation. What is a moon: gas giants have a huge amount of moons, over the terrestrial planets, most moons are irregular satellites, as they orbit very far from the planet, in a retrograde orbit. Our moon: regular satellite, prograde orbit, almost a perfect circle orbit. Apollo and luna mission: six manned apollo missions, and 3 robotic luna missions, total of 380kg of samples, from samples, we know. Lro: lunar reconnaissance orbiter, still in a polar orbit, measuring surface temp, uv and visible lights, provided a global map of the moon. Lcross: launched with lro, designed to search for water in the lunar poles, launched an impactor probe named centaur, measured the composition of the dust after, confirmed that there was water ice on the moon. Grail: designed to map the gravitational field of the moon, launched in 2011, two orbiters intentionally crashed into the moon.
