Tsiolkosvsky was a theorist didn"t actually make them. Wernher von braun- developed large military rockets for germany in ww2. London being the main target. once war was over they were taken to u. s and they built rockets for them. Sergei korolev- developed missiles and spacecrafts for the soviet union. Purpose was for nuclear weapons and later on in his career he was able to convince the union to launch one satellite to the states. (u. s was doing the same thing) Sergei korolev had the rst satellite in the space. U. s was pissed because they felt that the rocket can come down anywhere on earth and could contain bombs. Laika- rst specie to go to space (dog). (second satellite from russia) Few months later u. s launched there rst satellite (explorer 1) on january 31, 1958. Rst thing to hit the moon was the luna 2 (russian). Luna 3 (2 years after rst satellite) took pictures of the moon.
