We don"t understand the risks of the gmos, so we avoid them because we think that they are not safe. They have gone through thorough testing to make sure there is no health or environmental risks. People think that they are contributing to pesticide resistance of plants (herbicide tolerance) Like saying we shouldn"t use antibiotics because of resistance = we are stupid. It is illogical and counterproductive to avoid gmos. People think that harmful chemicals get into the soil and into the food supply, and therefore cause carcinogens. Most of what consumers see is just water, only a tiny bit is pesticides. Necessary for the viability and health of the plant. Regulatory agencies are in place to protect the public, not to undermine health. People who avoid foods because of pesticides are doing themselves a disservice. People think that there is no control over food anymore. Almost every farm in canada is a family farm.
