Occurs when one person"s motives, goals, beliefs, opinions or behavior are incompatible with those of another. Conflict is inescapable in close relationships, for two reasons: first, any two people will occasionally differ in their moods and preferences. Intermittent incompatibilities between two partners" goals and behavior will inevitably arise: second, there are certain tensions that are woven into the fabric of close relationships that will, sooner or later, always cause some strain. When they devote themselves to a close relationship, people often experience opposing motivations dialectics, that can never be completely satisfied because they contradict each other. fulfill one goal may endanger another one. People want to be free to do what they want (independent) but also seek warm, close connection to others (dependent). Intimacy involves self-disclosure, share their thoughts with one another but like privacy, something wants to keep to themselves. People with pleasant relationship want to maintain, keeping things the way they are.
