Earth Sciences 2266F/G Lecture Notes - Lecture 30: Postorbital Bar, Strepsirrhini, Simian
Document Summary
Very anthropocentric point of view in terms of human evolution b/c we focus a lot on the very fine details that differ between genera, something we wouldn"t even notice or care about in other animals like fish. If you look at the fossil record, compared to other groups we don"t really have a lot of good fossils more theories than fossils. To live in trees you have to grab on branches and climb up trees so we"ve developed features that are good for grasping (and leaping from tree to tree) Not sure; extremely sensitive nerve endings on fingertip pads in order to grasp on things better (to determine what you are grasping) Fingertip pads get broader and wider and end up with fattier fingertip and then claws just got wider as well and eventually became flat nails by themselves doesn"t seem to have a special evolutionary function.
