Document Summary
Kids at camp do more activity than they would normally do during the day. They meet both us and canadian guidelines for physical activity. They normally don"t meet these guidelines when they are at home. Effects of the star intervention program on interactions between campers with and without disabilities during inclusive summer day camp activities. The children with disabilities and children without disabilities didn"t tend to talk to one another. This is a significant difficulty of inclusive camps. Parents were approached and asked if their child could be trained in star. Training involved telling kids to stay, talk to them, assist them, if you think they did a good job, reward them. Prior to this training, only 1. 7% of interactions took place between children with and without disabilities. After star training, 26. 4% of the interactions took place between children with and without disabilities. Putting people together in the same physical space is not sufficient for genuine inclusion.
