And claimed andromeda in marriage having rescued her from a sea monster: andromeda"s mother claimed she was more beautiful than poseidon"s children, therefore she is forced to sacri ce her daughter andromeda. Danae was the only child of king acrisius of argos. The oracle at delphi told acrisius he would one day be killed by his grandson. So to keep danae a virgin and childless he imprisoned her in a bronze chamber, open to the sky. Zeus came to her in a shower of gold and impregnated her. Acrisius was fearful of the prophecy but did not want to incur the gods" wrath by killing his daughter and grandson. So he cast them out to sea in a chest. Danae"s fearful prayer to the gods was heard. And they washed ashore at the island of seriphos. The sherman dictys raised the boy to manhood.
