Document Summary

Chapter 21: perseus and the legends of argos. Argos was the center in greece and worshipped hera and the heraeum (the hill that held hera"s santuary) Phoroneus who established the kingdom of argos decided to favor hera in the contest for land between poseidon and hera. In anger, poseidon dried up the rivers (why the rivers are always short of water) Danae (daughter of proetus, twin of acrisius) and acrisius (king of argos) An oracle said that the son of danae would kill acrisius. And so, the king locked her up in an underground chamber of his palace. Zeus loved her and entered the chamber in the form a shower of gold and laid with her. Their child was perseus, she kept him in that chamber for 4 years until acrisius found out. He refused to believe that zeus was the father and sent both mother and child into a chest into the sea.
