Document Summary

Optogeneics provides control of speciic neurons at speciic imes in behaving animals. The inside of the nerve is very negaive, they can"t move: nerve membrane can be depolarized so that posiive ions can low in, this will conduct the nerve message from one neuron to another. We can also use halorhodopsin to move negaive ions, prevening depolarizaion. Genes can be created by reverse transcripion of mrna, then use transcriptase to make double- stranded dna this is called cdna. Channelrhodopsin cdna vs. genomic dna: you would not have a promoter in the cdna, because cdna is made from the transcript. Various types of dna synthesizers ( printers ) can make genes to order. How/where might we get the chlamy channelrhodopsin gene: genomic digest, cdna, and dna synthesis. Viruses can carry genes into the nucleus of eukaryotes: adenoviruses are used in gene therapy to carry genes into animal cell nuclei.
