Where do we get the channelrhodopsin sequence from put in vector and put it in mice. One way to get to gene study protein. What is the gene that codes for this protein that you are studying. Go from protein and want to ind gene that codes for it. Very hard to go from protein sequence to gene sequence because of redundancy in geneic code. But for serine, there are many possible codons to code for it, etc. 4 opions at every posiion 4^3= 64 (64 possible combinaions) But we are only encoding 20 amino acids. Diferent codons code for the same amino acid. Can"t only have 2 codons because it would become 4^2 which is only 16. Easy to go from gene sequence to protein, but diicult the other way. Construct that goes into the mice expresses transcript and makes protein of channelrhodopsin in the neurons.
