Blue arrow is time in the evolutionary sense. Infolding of the plasma membrane and part of that membrane breaks off and becomes the nuclear envelope. This is very different from the organelles that are specific eukaryotes like the mitochondria and chloroplasts. This theory states that modern day chloroplasts/mitochondria were once ancient bacteria, that was then engulfed by another bacteria. After the aerobic bacterium gets engulfed, it then engulfs they cyanobacterium. Chloroplast and mitochondria are descendants from free descending cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria is the only group of cells that goes through oxygenic photosynthesis. Just like bacteria, binary division is the only way you get more divide. Just like bacteria, binary division is the only way you get more mitochondria and chloroplasts. There are no genes that make mitochondria or chloroplast. New mitochondria and chloroplast come from old mitochondria and chloroplast from division. Mitochondria and chloroplast are the only organelles that have their own genomes if they were once free living.
