Document Summary
Genome diversity: chromosomes: genomes are made up of one or more chromosomes. 1 copy = haploid/monoploid; 2 copies = diploid ; multiple copies = polyploid. The genome size for all ploidy level would be the same, since the chromosome itself doesn"t change: chromosomes can be circular or linear, for eukaryote and prokaryote. Circular and linear chromosomes are not mutually exclusive, can have both in an organism. Other animals often have double-stranded chromosomes: chromosomes can be intact or fragmented. Intact all the genetic information are contained on the same chromosome (one molecule) Fragmented the genetic information are distributed across many types of chromosomes: chromosome is concatenated. Linear chromosomes can be connected, head-to-tail, tail-to-tail or head-to- head. It would construct an overall circular sequence the end would be the same as the beginning. Appear to be circular, but they are actually a bunch of linear ones.
