Document Summary

This image is showing that a gene of internet (in an eukaryote because of its casing) can be replicated, taken out and inserted into a bacterium. They have most of their genome contained in the bacterial chromosome. But, they also have these little circular, pieces of dna that carry genetic information and are easily transferred between individuals, and even between species. There are a lot of different ways these transgenic organisms are used. There"s a lot of applications, e. g. medical examples. Genes that are known to help break down complicated hydrocarbons (particularly things found in oil for example) had been transferred into this bacteria, creating these oil-eating bacteria. These are bacteria that have been engineered to be able to break down complex hydrocarbons that you might find in oil spills. It is relatively easy to do because bacteria has a plasmid, so it"s easy for us to insert sequences into bacteria and have them expressed.
