Anthropology: holistic study of the human species, past and present, four sub elds: What do archaeologists really do: popular perceptions of archaeology. Indian jones: not as dramatic and exciting. In the middle of being very dramatic and boring, there is a boring side but also the side of discovery. Framed around questions then design approach to answer question, and take into account funding. Need to establish if there are archaeology remains and if they important. If a site seems important they may have to move development. Quicker pace due to developers wanting to build. Far less money for post led-work analysis. A lot of material found ends up in museums. Provides long term perspective: you can"t know where you"re going until you know where you"ve been - John f. kennedy: those who can"t remember the past are condemned to repeat it -
