Explain how the boys resisted the postcolonial racialized hegemonic ideologies by speaking their language (gilmore: 46 p. 51) Macro: of the fact that they should speak swahili but their parents were fine with it. Also knew what other people expected of them. They had this performance that would draw attention to their language in public. Sang songs about life in the favela and inequality and class. Survives on street smarts and wits while managing to do as little as possible. Smart, opposite of the fool who follows all the rules. Every day there is slang on the asphalt and the hill because it is the people"s culture .
