Document Summary

The small intestines are composed of 3 parts: duodenum (first off coming from stomach) then food travels to jujenum, then finally we have the ileum. Note; small intestines is 6 m in length. The small intestines are 6m (2/3 of all that length) Function of small intestines is to absorb nutrients. Duodenum= junction point for release of digestive enzymes for the digestive process. You can describe it as c-shaped, and we have different regions; the superior part, the descending part, transverse part and ascending part. The most important is the second part/descending; this is where it receives secretions from pancreas, liver and gall bladder (important) Within the belly of this letter c is the pancreas nestled. Looking at the duodenum you see that it has ridges; plicae circulae (kinda like the rugae of the stomach). Reason for these ridges is increase of sa to absorb more compounds.
