Can be divided in 4 parts: the cervical part, which is the upper part, 2the thoracic part, 3 the lumbar part and 4 sacral part. The spinal chord itself only extends from cervical to thoracic. Lumbar and sacrum part is called cauda equina which means horse tail in latin. Spinal chord changes its shape in those areas looking like a horse tail. The spinal chord is embedded in the vertebrae. Ventral side facing the screen and dorsal at the back. White is the spinal chord protected between the vertebrae. On the right pic, you can see the ventral roots and ventral roots merge together and form a nerve that leaves the spinal chord to other parts of the body. Anastesia is given to the dura matter on the spinal chord, since spinal chord is cns, the dura extends to wrap the brain also. Denticulate ligament might be continuous to the pia matter.
