Layers: epidermis, made up of mainly epithelial tissue, most outer layer of the skin, keratinized squamous epithelium. Composed of numerous layers of dead squamous cells, which are specially structured to be waterproof and reduce evaporation from underlying tissues. Basale: most active and deepest layer, furthest away from external environment, contains cells that are replicating. Lucidum: thick skin that contains dead cell tissue, protect the skin in areas most common to damage, only found in our palms and the bottom of our feet.
