Everyone is exposed to culture and everyone knows values such as right from wrong. People break the law knowing that their actions are wrong. The cause of crime is not the exposure to the culture, but is the variation in the extent to which people believe in and are tied to conventional culture. People have little allegiance to the law and values weaken ( their belief, to conventional culture is attenuated. ) A shared understanding of values or beliefs, therefore, the is a strong. These four things lead to crime increase (criminogenic: barbara warner says that conventional values fall into disuse they are not rejected. Concentrated disadvantage and residential mobility decrease the allegiance to conventional values: a culture is strong when values are widely shared, they are visibly present in everyday life and are regularly articulated in social relationships. Looks at why belief in conventional culture becomes attenuated or weakened in some neighbourhoods and not others.
