We can force ourselves to do things and change ourselves. But this exacts a toll on our self-regulation battery: cookie study with anagrams. Also predicted career advancement: delay of gratification is super important. Those who are better at it can stick to their goals and be more focused. Some solutions for impulsiveness are related to value. The more intrinsically motivated the activity, the less alluring the alternatives are. If doing something really fascinating, then all the other distractors are not as alluring. If you can figure out your distractors and put up a barrier between it and you, can help.
