All auditory signals get summed in the ear canal. Interaural time difference (itd) the difference in time between a sound arriving at one ear vs. the other. The ear that"s closer will receive a larger sound. Excitatory connections to lso come from ipsilateral (same side) of ear. Our perception is not affected by the locations: problems. Cone of confusion the time and level difference are not very precise within certain cones and regions of the space: present auditory stimuli and spin them around and ask them to orient themselves. Our ears are shaped in a way to help out determine location of sounds. Simplest cue the intensity of the sound: do use it but not very helpful.
