Document Summary
Pavlov studied digestion using dogs as model. Collected saliva and other secretions when presented with meat powder. As they were preparing, even before presenting meat powder, started salivating. Possibility that digestive response more than just reflexes in response to food. Began conducting experiments: presented sound from metronome, presented meat powder to dogs, after pairing them, discovered that metronome could elicit salivation. Discovery began classical conditioning learning that occurs when a neutral stimulus elicits a response that was originally caused by another stimulus: neutral stimulus: sound of the tone (paired with meat powder) Pavlov"s work served as one of the foundations of behaviourism. Classical conditioning = one event causes another. A stimulus is an external event or cue that elicits a response. An unconditioned stimulus is a stimulus that elicits a reflexive response without learning. An unconditioned response is a reflexive, unlearned reaction to an unconditioned stimulus. Link between us and ur: unlearned; i. e. response occurs naturally.
