Document Summary
Positive feedback loops tend to grow very quickly. They also can be very subtly influenced (a small cause could quickly escalate to a big effect) If one is to change one of them, even a little bit, you can have a huge impact on the system. If you reward someone for something they enjoy doing, and diminish the reward would diminish the behaviour. Overjustification effect (1973) markers vs. good player award. They rewarded the kids who played with the markers last time, diminished the next time. You attribute the fun thing to the reward. The stronger the extrinsic reward is, the stronger the intrinsic motivation is pulled out. Top down processes (meaning, construal, interpretation) helps determine our motivation. Self determination theory says we have three fundamental needs we want to fulfill. Competence goal oriented, mastery oriented, success, practice. You do something because you are interested in it. You want to get better for an intrinsic gratification.
